Monitoring the Firewall & TCP/IP Ports |
|
|
|
|
Monitoring access to TCP/IP ports can help ensure web-based servers and services
are listening correctly for inbound requests
via TCP/IP ports. If the service is not listening on it's standard (or so-called
"well known") port, external access to that service will be unavailable.
At the same time, its extremely important to protect your servers from outside
attack & hacking, threats from viruses etc.

Monitoring the status of the Windows Firewall is easy with Sentry-go. The Sentry-go Port
& Firewall monitor plugs into the Sentry-go
Monitoring System, either as part of a Quick Monitor or as an individual
Sentry-go Plus! monitoring component. It allows you to periodically verify the status
of the server's firewall to ensure its enabled. It if isn't you can choose to
...
|
- Re-enable the firewall automatically
- Notify the administrators that the firewall is disabled
- Reboot the server
|
 |
As well as protecting the server from inappropriate connection attempts, you
also need to ensure TCP/IP services that are enabled are available & listening
correctly on the appropriate ports. Also available with the Sentry-go Port &
Firewall monitor, you can periodically verify that
access to well-known, or custom TCP/IP listen ports can be established on the local server.
If a connection cannot be established
or the data returned does not match expected results, automatic action can be
taken and/or alerts raised.
