The latest version of Sentry-go is the Sentry-go Monitoring System v6! Providing
the basis of both Sentry-go Quick Monitors &
Sentry-go Plus! components, this version includes new & eaiser to use client
tools, additional monitoring features as well as
improvements to existing ones. As before, with Sentry-go v6, you can purchase
pre-configured Quick Monitors, individual "plug & play" monitoring components, or
combine the two. Simply purchase the monitoring features you want and nothing more!

From version 5 to version 6
|
Upgrading from version 5 to version 6 couldn't be easier and is free of charge.
Simply run Setup, select the "Upgrade" option and let the Wizard do the rest.
Settings are automatically upgraded and adjusted as required.
If you're upgrading a number of monitors, then the new
Remote Update Wizard makes life even easier! Simply ugrade one of your
monitors to the required version and the Wizard can do the rest - replicating
that version to the others, remotely & with just a few clicks of the mouse!

Improved performance, easier to use, more options ... just some of the things
we've added recently ...
"Once again, we've listened to our clients to find out which features
are important to them. This lead us to a number of improvements to client tools
- such as the integration of monitoring & scripting wizards as well as changes
to alert & auto-response configuration to make them easier to understand and
setup.
Clients with smaller numbers of monitors wanted a quick way to access key
monitoring functions without the need for registration or real-time alerting and
the new "Sentry-go Easy Access Utility" does just that. At the same time,
clients running larger numbers of Quick Monitors had a different request - a way
of accessing status information & alerts from all monitors in a single report.
To enable this, version 6 supports the new Enterprise Option, providing global
enterprise-wide repoprting through a self maintaining SQL Server database."

Sentry-go Enterprise Option
|
The advantages of local monitoring - e.g. efficient use of network resources,
easier & more beneficial auto-responses etc. are well documented. However, local
monitoring also has its drawbacks. Up until now, we've minimised through the
Client Console, central management & config. synchronisation options etc., but
when it came to reporting, the data was always shown on a "per server" basis. If
you're running a handful of monitors thats no real problem, but for larger
customers, the number of separate monitors makes reporting more tricky to use,
and soon lessens the benefit. The new Sentry-go Enterprise Option changes all
that!
An optional, self-contained system, the Enterprise Option uses a
central SQL Server database to collect & collate monitored information from
around the entire Sentry-go environment, direct from the local monitors. This
information includes the monitor's current status, the status & last known value
of each check &
alerts.
Both Quick & Sentry-go Plus! monitors continue to work as before and can be accessed in the normal way.
However, with the Enterprise Option, additional options give you access to
enterprise-wise reporting, direct from the database, allowing you to spot common
faults, issues & potentially trends across the environment from a single source.

Monitor your firewall in just a few clicks!

The Windows firewall is becoming an increasingly complex & important component
of many servers. Knowing its running & protecting your systems is therefore
vital and with the new TCP/IP Port Monitor, you can do just that! Enable
firewall monitoring and let Sentry-go keep an eye on it for you - if it fails,
choose to re-enable it automatically or alert you to the problem - it really is
as simple as that!

Client Tools
|
Its not just the monitor that's been updated, we've made improvements to the
existing client tools, as well as introducing the new Easy Access Utility. Designed to be easy to use, the Easy Access Utility provides a
fast & convenient way of accessing all the primary features of the monitor both
locally or remotely, including accessing web reports, configuration & status
information. With it you can also export settings from one monitor to another,
thus saving valuable time when you have more than one monitor to install.
At the same time, the Client Console has also been improved. Its now easier to
configure alerts (using named alert groups), with the Console now showing which
alerts would be triggered in the event a failure occured. "Show Me" help has
also been improved, giving you access to on-line resources in order to explain &
show a particular feature in action.
Wizards are now integrated into the Console, providing quick & easy ways of
setting up printer & performance monitoring. The Scripting Wizard is also more
fully integrated - simply select the alert or response and where appropriate,
have let the Wizard do the rest! No coding, no scripting knowledge required -
simply fill in the answers and away you go!
When checks are updated or new ones defined, it is also now easier to verify the
configured settings using the monitor's web reports.

Alerting & Response Features
|
In addition to the new Wizards, which make configuring alerts & responses
quicker & easier to setup, new monitoring features also add greater flexibility.
For example, the new Alert Correction Mechanism (ACM) allows you to configure a
check so that if it should fail, only a single alert will be triggered. From then
on, the check continues to run but the monitor waits until it is resolved before
re-enabling the alert. With the ACM, the monitor can also notify the alert group
when the problem is fixed.
