Monitoring Files, Directories & Folders |
Monitoring files & directories on your servers not only ensures your file system
is healthy, it also allows you to monitor file sizes and counts as well as be
informed of changes being made. This can be extremely important, for example for
security, auditing or purely business reasons.
For example, you may wish to monitor files & directories in order to track the number of files being stored in
a directory or their total file size, to be informed if key files are removed or
edited, or to ensure backups have been completed successfully etc.
Alternatively, file monitoring checks may be more specific, for example to ensure uploaded
files are processed in a timely manner, or to ensure key files are not updated.
Ordinarily this would be a manual check, possibly using the file's last modified
date or a count of the files in important directories, but with Sentry-go, monitoring
files & directories like this can be totally automated.
Action can be taken automatically if issues are detected and/or the System Administrator notified. You can,
for example ...
- Verify the size of a file, mask, directory
- Verify the no. files matching a given mask within a directory
- Verify that a file/mask has, or has not been updated within a given timeframe
- Verify that a file/mask exists within a given directory
- Verify whether a file or mask has been added to, deleted from or updated within a given directory
- Monitor user access to files or directories
- Optionally check all sub-directories
- Optionally mask out unwanted files
- Notify System Administrator(s) of errors or failures
Examples where file & directory monitoring would be of benefit include ... |
- On your application or file server
- On your storage servers
- On your Active Directory or domain controllers
- On your FTP servers
