Monitoring E-mail Functions |
|
|
|
|
Monitoring Exchange e-mail functions - in particular the ability to monitor that
you can send and receive e-mail, ensures your Microsoft Exchange server solution
is functioning correctly, along with other related technologies such as SMTP, POP3
and IMAP4.
|
|
|
 |
E-mail today is one of the most important communication methods both within
and between organisations.
Although everything may individually appear to be
running fine, monitoring your e-mail function is best achieved by
verifying that e-mail can be sent successfully and arrives at the desired
location within a suitable timeframe. To send or receieve an e-mail, a number of components need to be up and
running - the end servers, network connectivity, usually including external
networks outside your own, network access & firewall security as well as
services such as Microsoft Exchange, SMTP, POP3, IMAP .
|
|
|
With Sentry-go, monitoring e-mail functions within Microsoft Exchange periodically & totally automatically is easy. You can,
for example ...
- Ensure e-mail can be sent using SMTP
- Ensure e-mail can be sent using authenticated SMTP (Sentry-go Plus!)
- Ensure e-mail can be received using POP3
- Ensure e-mail can be received using IMAP4
- Ensure e-mails are received within a given timeframe
- Take automatic action if required
- Notify System Administrator(s) of errors or failures
Sentry-go monitors e-mail send/receive functionality by periodically sending an
e-mail and verify it's delivery within a given timeframe to one or more e-mail
addresses. If the message can't be sent, or doesn't arrive in the specified
mailbox within the given time, you'll be notified immediately.
Examples where e-mail monitoring would be of benefit include ... |
|
|
- Monitoring that e-mails are being processesed internally within your
organisation
- Monitoring that e-mails can be accessed to/from the outside world
