Sentry-go monitors are designed to monitor your server 24 hours a day. When an error is detected, for example a monitoring check fails, a check cannot be completed or the value returned is outside of an expected limit, it is important that action is taken as soon as possible. This may be to attempt to resolve it automatically, or to alert you as quickly as possible in the most appropriate format.

The monitor can either take action itself automatically to resolve the fault, inform you as to the type and whereabouts of the problem, or both.

You can configure the monitor to trigger an alert only if an error occurs repeatedly over a given period of time - e.g. continual high CPU usage.

Once an error is detected & an alert triggered, Sentry-go can also be configured to ignore the check for a given period of time, giving you time to investigate and/or resolve the problem without more alerts being constantly produced.

You can choose one or more alerting options depending on your needs, the environment in which the monitor is running & the time when the error occurs.

Logging

When triggered, an alert is designed to either allow the monitor to take action itself in order to resolve the error, inform one or more System Administrators, or both.

You can do this in a number of ways including ...

  • Run a batch file, script or application
  • Send an e-mail (using standard or authenticated SMTP)
  • Send a network message
  • Send a message via an SMS gateway
  • Create customised actions to extend the functionality further

In addition, alerts can be logged to a file or database, for further data graphing & reporting using a 3rd party application such as Microsoft Excel.
