Sentry-go monitors are designed to monitor your desktops and/or servers 24 hours a day. When an error is detected, for example a monitoring check fails, the value returned is outside of an expected limit, or an error is displayed on a monitored desktop, it may be important that action is taken as soon as possible.

On a server, the monitor can either take action itself automatically to resolve the fault, inform you as to the type and whereabouts of the problem, or both.  On a desktop, diagnostics are recorded at the time of failure and details can be automatically forwarded or saved as required.

On a server, when a problem is detected, there are often times when the steps you would take are nearly always the same. For example ...      
 
  • If you run low on disk space, your first step might be to clear down temporary files
  • Or if a service stops, you want to restart it, then check why it failed.

Both Sentry-go Quick Monitors & Sentry-go Plus! allow you to define an automatic action you wish to take in response to a failure. If these don't resolve the problem (or maybe if they do), you can then be alerted.

Types of Auto-Response

The auto-responses available are dependent on the check being performed but include the following ...
 
  • Restarting a failed service
  • Rebooting the local or a remote server
  • Running or terminating applications
  • Terminating SQL queries
  • Pausing or deleting print jobs
  • Clearing down temporary files
  • Unmapping/remapping drives
  • Stop/starting Windows services
  • Restarting COM+ applications
  • Running a Windows command
  • Running a VB Script containing your own custom logic response
  • Running a 3rd party utility or application
