Sentry-go monitors are designed to monitor your desktops and/or servers 24 hours a day. When an error is detected, for example a monitoring check fails, the value returned is outside of an expected limit, or an error is displayed on a monitored desktop, it may be important that action is taken as soon as possible.

On a server, the monitor can either take action itself automatically to resolve the fault, inform you as to the type and whereabouts of the problem, or both.  On a desktop, diagnostics are recorded at the time of failure and details can be automatically forwarded or saved as required.

When a problem is detected, Sentry-go can alert you in a number of ways. This is particularly useful if automatic action either cannot be taken, fails to resolve the problem or when you wish to know an error message has been displayed on a desktop without the user needing to contact you.
 
Alerts can be configured for each check. You can send notifications using a varierty of methods, based on the alert group and the time of day. You can also alert after a number of successive errors or choose to ignore further errors until resolved

Notify by Network Message

  
If you are logged on, network messaging is often the quickest way of being informed of more important errors. The message will inform you of both the fault & the server on which it was detected and can be sent from both the server & desktops.

Notify by E-mail

 
Another popular notification method is to alert to one or more e-mail addresses. This gives you a clear log of events that have occurred & allows you to access the information remotely. Both standard & custom e-mails can be sent, using standard or authenticated SMTP. Again both server & desktop monitors can forward information by e-mail.
 
Notifications can be sent directly to the support team or helpdesk via e-mail, from both server & desktop monitors

Notify the Client Console

Sentry-go monitors can send alert information to all the Client Consoles they are registered with in real time. This provides a powerful way of displaying alerts in chronological order as they occur in near real-time, in addition to centrally managing & configuring them direct from your desktop.

The Sentry-go Client Console can be run on many desktops, for example by your helpdesk peronnel, Operations, System Administrators etc.

Other notification methods

 
You may want to be notified of issues in different ways - maybe more urgently or out of normal office hours etc.
      
  • Notify your mobile, cell phone or by SMS.
     
    Nowadays, many operators allow e-mails to be sent directly to your phone and this makes a great way to be informed of issues without needing to logon to a PC etc. With Sentry-go these e-mails can quickly & easily be configured.
     
  • Write to an event log, file or database
     
    Recording information centrally allows you to handle or process them from a single source.
     
  • Print or fax details (servers)
     
    For remote locations, you may wish to print or fax alert information automatically when a fault occurs. In conjunction with other applications such as Microsoft Fax Services, alerts can easily be sent direct from the server.
     
  • Notify by SMS gateway or pager (servers)
     
    This option allows you be notified using a 3rd party gateway provider such as Bigfoot, ClickATell or Intellisoftware. You can also interface with other systems using SMTP or HTTP as rquired.
     
  • Custom logic
     
    For thge ultimate in flexibility, monitors allow notifications be sent using your own custom scripts etc. With these you can either script the response yourself, use the Sentry-go Scripting Wizard, or visit our scripting library for examples etc.
