When a problem is detected, Sentry-go can alert you in a number of ways. This is particularly useful if automatic action either cannot be taken or fails to resolve the problem.
  
  Notify by Network Message

 
If you are logged on, this is often the quickest way of being informed of more important errors. The message will inform you of both the fault & the server on which it was detected.

  Notify by E-mail
 
Alternatively, or in addition to the network message, the alert information can be sent to one or more e-mail addresses. This gives you a clear log of events that have occurred & allows you to access the information remotely. Both standard & custom e-mails can be sent, using standard or authenticated SMTP.

  Notify via the Client Console
Monitors can also send alert information to all the Client Consoles they are registered with. This provides a powerful way of displaying alerts in chronological order as they occur in near real-time, in addition to centrally managing & configuring them direct from your desktop.

The Console can be run on multiple desktops - e.g. by your helpdesk peronnel, Operations, System Administrators etc.

  Notify by SMS, Pager or your own Custom Logic
 
There may be times when you want to notify of alert conditions using another method - e.g. to send a message to your mobile phone via e-mail or SMS, interface with external systems etc. Sentry-go allows you to do this, straight from the box, by allowing you to ...
 
  • Script a response
  • Send a custom e-mail 
  • Send an authenticated SMTP e-mail 
  • Send an SMS message via a Gateway Provider such as Bigfoot, ClickATell, Intellisoftware, or using your own provider.
  • Interface with other systems using SMTP (e-mail) or HTTP (web server)
  • Interface with external systems or applications
  • Log information to an Event Log
  • Sound an audible alarm  

If you have little knowledge of scripting or you simply don't have the time to write scripts from scratch, you can use the Sentry-go Scripting Wizard. Alternatively, download them from our scripting library.
 

  Set your Alerting Methods based on Time

 
Different types of notification can be sent depending on the time and day the failure occurs, thus allowing you to tailor the recipient and method accordingly. For example, you could send a network message during office hours, and an SMS outside of these times etc.
