About Sentry-go Software

Sentry-go Alerting Features

Sentry-go monitors are designed to monitor your desktops and/or servers 24 hours a day. When an error is detected, for example a monitoring check fails, the value returned is outside of an expected limit, or an error is displayed on a monitored desktop, it may be important that action is taken as soon as possible.

On a server, the monitor can either take action itself automatically to resolve the fault, inform you as to the type and whereabouts of the problem, or both.  On a desktop, diagnostics are recorded at the time of failure and details can be automatically forwarded or saved as required.

Logging

Alert logging allows you to record information about a detected error to a central source, such as a database, text-file, Event Log or a SysLog server.

Logging to a database

Sentry-go server monitors allow you to record information directly to an ODBC-compliant database such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle & Access. Once captured, SQL queries can be run in order to analyse the data, and produce reports and charts using your standard reporting solution. With the Enterprise Option, status & alerts are automatically recorded in a SQL Server database

Logging to a text file

You can also log the details of alerts, or displayed desktop error messages to to a text file - e.g. CSV file format. From here details can be used to import the data for further processing, such as transferring data into Microsoft Excel for further reporting, analysis & graphing etc. Desktop errors can also be forwarded using XML - e.g. for automatic import into your helpdesk software.

Both server & desktop monitors can log directly to a network file. Using a comma-separated (CSV) file format, information can be imported into other application for further analysis & reporting

Logging to the Windows event log

Sentry-go monitors can also log alert information to the Application Event Log on either the local or a remote server. This is particularly useful if you already have a monitoring solution for your Event logs and wish to continue to use its methods of alerting.

Logging to a SysLog server

If you are running a SysLog server and wish to log faults & problems centrally to it, Sentry-go Quick & Plus! monitors can be configured to forward alerts on, including alert-specific information.
